Amir Khan is a 32 year old male who has recently been admitted following a manic episode which has now resolved. He has previously had several depressive episodes in the past and your consultant has given him a diagnosis of Bipolar Affective Disorder. Your consultant has been called away to review another patient and has left you to explain to Mr Khan his new medication.

Discuss lithium treatment with the patient and answer any questions he may have.
